lützeraths letzter akt - lützeraths last act
in the first weeks of 2023, the small village of lützerath made it into the world news. as one of the last remaining villages threatened by lignite mining, the fight to save it grew into a symbol. thousands of activists poured into the village for weeks, building barricades and preparing for one of the largest police operations the region has ever seen. the activists entrenched themselves for days, making it difficult for the police to clear the village. after a week of clashes, the police finally succeeded in clearing the village and making way for the huge excavators to carry out the environmentally damaging mining of brown coal.
the work "lützerath's letzter akt" has been selected for the "rückblende 2023" award and is shown as part of the group exhibition.
